BONGIORNO, Nancy L. (Husted) (In Memoriam)
Nancy Lee Bongiorno Husted, 71, of Bridgeport, Ohio, went to be with the Lord and her husband of 51 years on Thursday, May 4, 2006. She was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Charleroi, the daughter of the late Paul and Edith Sisley Bongiorno. Nancy graduated from Charleroi High School in 1952 and then moved to Shadyside, Ohio. After raising her children, she worked part-time as a secretary for the Wheeling Heart Association and for Forrest Kirkpatrick before retiring. Nancy was a volunteer at East Ohio Regional Hospital. She was an election poll worker for many years and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport. Nancy will always be remembered as a loving wife, caregiver, mother, grandmother and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Husted Sr. in April 2006. She is survived by her son, Charles Husted Jr. and wife Janet, of Bridgeport; a daughter, Both Tully and husband Michael, of Brookside; two brothers, David Bongiorno and wife Eunice, of Wauseon, Ohio, and Henry Bongiorno and wife Sue, of Ridgeville, S.C.; a sister, Nellie Parker and husband Thomas, of Shadyside; five grandchildren, Amy Picetti, of Columbus, Alex Rusted, of Bridgeport, Mike Tully, of St. Clairsville, Meghan Tully, of Cameron, W.Va., and John Tully, of Bridgeport. Friends are invited to attend visitation on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the WILSON FUNERAL HOME, 920 National Road, Brookside, Ohio, where funeral services will be held Monday, May 8, at 10 a.m. with Michelle Bennington Lucarelli as the officiant. When asked, I always tell everyone that I graduated from Charleroi Hi, in 1952. I went on and got a degree in electronics and worked as a manager and an engineer at IBM. I retired from IBM in 1994. After graduation, attended Penn State for three years, then graduated from Moser Secretarial School in Chicago, which provided me excellent executive positions in Chicago, Kansas City and later Tucson. Took a leave of absence from work, from 1959 through 1973 to raise four children. Nine grandchildren, soon to be one great-grandchild. Married 20 years, divorced in 1977, worked for Motorola in Scottsdale, AZ, for 24 years moving from HR to Production Supervisor to Material Project Manager to Government Contracts Administrator and eventually, Computer Network Administrator, the last 8 or 10 years. Retired 1998, currently writing books on family history and enjoying life and working part time.

JoAnn Moffit, 73, of Charleroi, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born March 1, 1934 in Charleroi, a daughter of the late Paul and Mary Miklos Frantz. She was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish in Charleroi. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Carl Braunegg of Harrisburg, and Juliann and Doug Hawk of Charleroi; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Stella Frantz of Charleroi; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Margaret Luzansky of Belle Vernon, Sister Angeline O.S.F. of Bellevue and Bernice and Frank Petrarca of McDonald; three grandchildren, Grace, Rose and Benjamin Hawk; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rbert Moffit; her son Thomas Moffit; five brothers, Paul Jr. Rudolph, Bernard, William and Albert Frantz; and two sisters Helen Woytovich and Mary Gunchuck. Herbert R. "Wick" Gainer, 73, of Roscoe, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a lengthy illness. He was born July 5, 1934, in Elco, the son of the late Herbert M. and Margaret Wehousie Gainer. He retired after many years as the maintenance supervisor for the California Area School District, where he was a past officer of the SEIU. He was a social member of Roscoe American Legion Post No. 801, the Legion Rum Club, the Dartball League, and he was an avid fisherman. Survivors include one sister, Janet Bitonti Ferretti and husband, John; a nephew, John Bitonti and wife, Susan; great-nieces, Gia and Marissa Bitonti; and his best friend, Penny, all of Roscoe. Friends will be received in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., of Roscoe, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. I am married to Edna Alexander (Class of '57) and we have four children and seven grandchildren. I enjoy tennis, photography and travel. MANCUSO, Mary F. (Alvarez) IN MEMORIAM
Mary F. Alvarez, 74, of Carroll Township, departed this world peacefully in her home surrounded by those she loved on Sunday, July 29, 2007, after a lengthy battle with physical ailments. She was born in Monessen on June 17, 1933, a daughter of the late Anthony and Virginia Vaughn Mancuso. Mrs. Alvarez retired after years of assisting in the business shared by her husband "Speed" and her brother Tom, known as Alvarez and Mancuso Construction. She was a lifelong resident of the Mon Valley. Mrs. Alvarez was Catholic by faith, an honors graduate of Charleroi High School, was active in the community for many years as a Girl Scout troop leader and Boy Scouts den mother, a member of the Carroll Township Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a Past President and award winner of the Mon Valley Art Club, an art instructor for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and most recently was a member in good standing with the Tuesday Lunch Group (The Cousins). She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, and her dear friend, Louise Kifer. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Joseph "Speed" Alvarez; four daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Marie and Robert DiBiaso, of Youngwood; Mary Jo and Mark Garbart, of Donora, Laura Ann and Jack Emricko and Adella and Scott Boord, all of Carroll Township; one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph III and Theresa Alvarez, of Fallowfield Township; 11 grandchildren, Chad Stimak, Dorian Smith, Jake Alvarez, Jay Emricko, Jennifer and John Boord, Josh Alvarez, Luke Stimak, Missie Paul, and Sonya and Trisha Smith; seven great-grandchildren, John, Courtney, Alyson, Alex, Drake, Mason and Rowen; siblings, Laura LaRiccia, of Monessen, Tom (Gloria) Mancuso, of Carroll Township, Toni Samaan, of New Eagle, Mike (Shera) Mancuso and David (Marylynn) Mancuso, both of North Huntingdon; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Jo DiGioia and Dorothy Stanley. McKAY, John Gray Jr. (In Memoriam)
John Gray McKay Jr. Colonel John Gray McKay, Jr. (USAF retired) passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2005. John was born to Verna Newton McKay and John Gray McKay on July 4, 1934 in North Charleroi, PA. He married his dearly beloved life mate, Charlotte Catherine Robinson, in 1962 and spent the first 20 years of marriage raising two wonderful children and enjoying life in the U.S. Air Force. John was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother, George Newton McKay. In addition to being survived by his devoted wife, Charlotte, of Austin, Texas survivors include son David McKay of Frisco, Texas, daughter and son-in-law Holly and Todd Crandell and four grandchildren, Ashlynn Crandell, twins Jameson Crandell and Jackson Crandell, and Catherine Crandell, also of Frisco, Texas; sisters Evelyn Vogelman of Waynesburg, PA, and Frances Uhrin of Carroll, OH, and brother Timothy McKay of Waynesburg, PA, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. John served 27 honorable years in the Air Force rising from Airman Basic to the rank of Colonel prior to his retirement in 1981. During his Air Force career, John performed flying duties as a Navigator, Instructor Navigator, Senior Pilot, Command and Instructor Pilot, Maintenance Squadron Commander and Senior Staff Officer. He accumulated over 5,500 fighter/trainer jet aircraft flying hours. John's duty assignments included several bases in the U.S., as well as locations in England, Germany, Thailand (Vietnam War), and Japan. Among the decorations and awards earned by Colonel McKay are the Defense Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal. During his lifetime, besides being devoted to his wife and children, John was active in church, civic and youth activities and was a long time member of the University Avenue Church of Christ in Austin, Texas. John obtained a Bachelor's Degree in geography from the University of Nebraska and a Master's Degree in public administration from Auburn University while also completing year-long military staff and senior management training courses culminating at the Air War College where he was designated a distinguished graduate in 1975. Subsequent to his military career, John served as Executive Director of The Texans' War on Drugs, and then completed a career with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in the field of traffic safety. Soon after his retirement from TxDOT in 1999, John was presented the coveted national James J. Howard Highway Safety Award by the National Association of Governor's Highway Safety Representatives. John will be missed by his family and many friends for his caring ways, calm sense of loyalty and devotion to God, family and duty. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas. Funeral services will be at the same location at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2005. Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's honor to the Austin Graduate School of Theology, 1909 University Avenue, Austin, Texas 78705, the Christian Service Center of the University Avenue Church of Christ, 1903 University Avenue, Austin, Texas 78705, or to the American Cancer Society.

Cecelia A. "Sally" Hough, 73, of Speers Hill (Charleroi), died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, in the Washington County Health Center. She was born Dec. 8, 1934, in Charleroi, a daughter of the late Edward and Kathryn Tope Michener. Mrs. Hough was Untied Methodist by faith. She was employed by the former Kinder and Mollenauer in Charleroi and Ehlers Auto Parts in Belle Vernon. Survivors include her husband, Raymond E. Hough; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Pam Hough, of Pueblo, Colo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Ken Ballentyne, of Charleroi, and Lila and Mark Mears, of Pueblo West, Colo.; five grandchildren, Daniel Ballentyne, Amanda Shenouda, Michael Mears, Eric Mears and Kevin Hough; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother and sister, George Michener and Patricia Tedrow. MOYER, Ronald J. 'In Memoriam'
Ronald J. Moyer, 72, of Monongahela, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006 in Mon Valley Hospital. Born Feb. 4, 1934 in North Charleroi, he was the son of the late Esten and Margaritte Delvo Moyer. He had been employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Monessen in the Blooming Mill department prior to retirement. After retiring, Mr. Moyer had become a Mater Carpenter. He was an avid golfer, a proud patron of Hilltop and Jims in Monongahela and had been a member of the Monessen Fireman's Club No. 1. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Anne Runfola. Survivors include his daughter, Kimberly Weiss, of Monongahela; a son and daughter-in-law, Rocky and Linda Moyer, of Canonsburg; a grandson, Jarrad Weiss; a brother, Earl Moyer, of Monongahela; two sisters, Emily and Simone, of the sate of California; and one niece and nephew, Christy King, of Vanderbilt, and Gary Moyer, of Toronto, Canada. J. Fred Olexa, 70, of Perryopolis, formerly of Charleroi, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at his home. He was born June 14, 1934, in Hazelkirk, a son of Susan Evans Olexa, of Charleroi, and the late John M. Olexa. He was retired from Columbia Gas as a district service manager in Coshocton, Ohio. A graduate of Charleroi High School, Class of 1952, he attended Pitt University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during peacetime and attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was an Evangelist and missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ. Also surviving are his wife of 48 years, Charlotte Kirschner Olexa; two sons, Jonathan Olexa and wife, Karen, of Edison, N.J., and Jason Olexa and wife, Julie, of South Park; a daughter, Robyn Yencsik and husband, David, of Washington, Pa.; five grandchildren, Aaron and Joshua Olexa, David and Carleigh Yencsik, and Jay Trbovich; a brother, Kenneth Olexa and wife, Kathy, of Transfer, Pa.; and a sister, Carolee Sutch and husband, Robert, of Charleroi. Jack D. Renchkovsky, 72, of Charleroi, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006 in Washington Commons, Bridgeville. He was born June 12, 1934 in Charleroi, the son of the late Michael and Betty Gorgis Renchkovsky. He was an avid gardener and fisherman and served with the U.S. Army in Germany. He was retired as the warehouse supervisor at Atlas Merchandising in Charleroi. Surviving are two sisters, Jean Renchkovsky, of Carnegie, and Barbara Ashley, of Kentucky; and one niece and nephew, Kimberly and Will Rausch, of Carnegie. SWANEY, Charles IN MEMORIAM
Charles Swaney, 71, of Charleroi, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, in his home. He was born Sept. 19, 1934, in North Charleroi, a son of the late Charles and Angelina Caramella Swaney. He was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish of Charleroi. Charles was retired from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Jeannette Swaney, of Speers; two daughters, Dawn Graham and husband Paul, of Charleroi, who resided with him, and Vicki Sanner and Victor Tuman of Fallowfield Township; five grandchildren, Michael Jampedro and fiancee Raelyn Halinka, Chad Jampedro and wife Kelly, Jamie Clark, who took loving care of her grandfather, and Jessica and David Swaney; and two great-grandchildren, Rocco and Colton C. Jampedro. The family would also like to offer a special thanks to his nurse, Jamie Fleming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ilene Swaney; one daughter, Charlene Clark; one son-in-law, David Sanner; and one brother, Roy Swaney. Friends will be received in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 30, at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of the Church, and interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.

WARYANKA, Mike (In Memoriam)
Mike Waryanka, 70, of West Newton (Sewickley Township), died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Aug. 2, 1934 in Cokeburg, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Mary Kuchta Waryanka. Prior to retiring, he was employed by the former Combustion Engineering in Monongahela as a machinist. He was a member of St. Basil the Great Russian Orthodox Church in Rostraver Township. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica Labonich Waryanka. He is survived by two sons, Michael S. Waryanka and wife Debora of Grove City, and Nicholas J. Waryanka and wife Dianne of Allison Park; one daughter, Michelle A. Vilchek and husband David of West Newton; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Alyssa, Abigail and Zachary Waryanka and David, Alexander and Natalie Vilchek; one brother, John Waryanka of West Newton; and one sister, Anne Siefert of West Newton. Friends will be received at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home Monday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in St. Basil the Great R.O. Church, Rostraver Township, with Father Dionysi Vitali officiating. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery. Parastas service will be held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Worked in the Washington, D.C. area 20 years and then moved to current address, in West Virginia. Semi-retired. Still teach 'Career Transition' to military peers. Still love to dance.
