UPDATE 8/29/04: Beth and I finally made the move south. Myrtle Beach is where we have spent the last 12 winters... so, we decided to make the move and live here.
UPDATE 11/30/05: We moved to Myrtle Beach, about 16 months ago and love it. There is so much to do here. We have 100 golf courses, 1,400 resturants, theaters, concerts, and, of course, babysitting our three grandchildren. |

On the staff of Allegheny General Hospital, Sewickley General Hospital, and Canonsburg Hospital before moving to Conway, SC in 1986. Joined the staff of Conway Medical Center, in 1987 and continued to work there until retiring in 1999. We raised 3 daughters on a 35 acre farm near Claysville, PA(west of Washinton,Pa.) and now have 3 grandsons. My father passed away on November 11, 1999, from a massive heart attack, resulting from congestive heart failure. His love of Charleroi, the town of his youth, was instilled in me. I loved to hear him reminisce about how Charleroi and the Mon Valley were, years ago. He worked his entire life at the Clairton Coke Works and was married to my mom, Lyna, for 32 years. He was the proud dad of 3 kids. We made him even happier by giving him 8 grandchildren.

KRUPPA, Joanna (In Memoriam)
Joanna Kruppa, 70, of North Belle Vernon, died Sunday, February 10, 2008, in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Born August 23, 1937, in North Charleroi, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Kinder Kruppa. A resident of North Belle Vernon for the past 45 years, Ms. Kruppa was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon. Stricken with polio as a teenager, she spent three years at the D.T. Watson Home, where she was one of Dr. Jonas Salk's "polio pioneers". She returned home to graduate from Charleroi High School in 1955 and graduated from California State Teachers College in 1959. She was an elementary school teacher for 25 years. Her first job was at Fort Allen in Hempfield Township and then at Barren Run Elementary School in the Yough School District for most of her career. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Damon Turek, of Beaver Falls; a brother and sister-in-law, John R. and Kathy Kruppa, of Canonsburg; a sister-in-law, Sharon Kruppa, of Monongahela; nieces and nephews, John Edward and Barbara Kruppa, Dana and Norman Shepler, and Christopher Kruppa and Rachel; great-nieces and nephews, Ryan and Bethany Kruppa, Tessa Shepler, Tylor and Bailey Kruppa; and a special cousin, Mary Ann Gratty, of Economy. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 13, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon (724-929-6183). A prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas, pastor, as celebrant. Happily married for 48 years, to Wild Wolf McCallum, a Marine from California, Pa.; one child, Joe- married to Lisa. They have four children... 3 boys and 1 girl. I have been retired for the last six years. We travel in a moderate Jayko Camper and have a lot of fun. Jim and I are born again Christians and enjoy the freedom in the lord Jesus Christ. I knit, sew and do puppet shows. I have twenty-two puppets in all. Most shows are for kids at church. We have found they like the "Shark" above all others. This past Saturday, we went to a church picnic and bobbed for apples. I took out my hearing aids so as not to get them wet. After becoming soaking wet, I gave Jim a big hug so we would be wet together! I am looking forward to seeing all of you.

Updated 12/7/05: Married to Bobbi McCrory of Fayette City for 49 happy years. Two children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 20 years with Westinghouse; retired as a radiological/industrial safety engineer. Worked at Bettis Atomic Power Lab (West Mifflin), Astro Nuclear Lab (Large), and The Nevada Test Site (Jackass Flats), 100 miles north of Las Vegas and The Nuclear Training Center (Zion, Ill.). I then went to work for Eberline Instruments in Santa Fe, New Mexico as manager of sales, but got the itch to go back to Vegas after three years. Moved back and worked various positions over the next 20 years. Over the years, I put 25 years in the Army National Guard & Reserve. Vegas grew too much and too fast for us and we decided to retire here in southern New Mexico. Would be nice hear from classmates and friends from CHS.
PHOTO- Nuclear powered rocket on its test car. The nuclear reactor was assembled in the lab at Large, Pa.; special rail car to Las Vegas and truck to Jackass Flats for testing. We built and tested eight of these. The program was part of the Mars Mission that is still in limbo.
Updated 7/12/06: Bought 2 1/2 acres in a little settlement called Alamorosa. Pecan and pistachio trees. I can spend the rest of my life amongst the nuts.

Howard E. Reabe, 68, of Belle Vernon, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at his home. He was born Nov. 11, 1937, in Charleroi, the son of the late Clarence Reabe and Helen Koessar Reabe. In addition to his parents, one brother predeceases Howard. Howard was a graduate of Charleroi High School with the Class of 1955. He was a crankman for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Mill for 30 years and a member of the United Steel Workers of America Local Union. He is survived by two sons, David Reabe, of Charleroi, and Jon Brandon, of Donora; two daughters, Debbie and Shelia Reabe, both of Charleroi; two sisters, Mary Rita Reabe, of Perryopolis, and Jacqueline Milek, of Belle Vernon; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown. A Memorial Mass was celebrated today at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis, with the Rev. John T. Euker officiating. Burial was private. Hi... Attended California State University for a year, before going to St. Margaret's nursing school, in Pittsburgh. Married, Carl Custozzo and moved to Ellwood City- have 3 children and six grandchildren. Worked part-time in the hospital, coronary care and as a staff nurse and supervisor. When the children left home, I became an operating room nurse manager, for 20 years. It's great to be the boss. Still working- love what I do. Our nursing class just held its '44th Reunion'. It led me to realize how important it is to hold onto old friends. This site is a great idea. I hope more classmates find it, so we can all keep in touch.
