 1940 Redd's Beach Beauty Contest 1940 Redd's Beach beauty contest. Photo courtesy of W. Otto and found in "Pictorial history of the Mid Mon Valley" compiled by The Valley Independent. The date of this photograph appears to be in question. It either is from the 1940's OR the 1950's. Any assistance in identifying the correct decade here would be greatly appreciated. -Jeane Palfrey, Site Administrator Jeane- According to Bonny McCormick Rabe '59, she is the first girl on top, so the picture would have to be the 50's and not the 40's. Looks like they must have made a mistake in the "Pictoral history of the Mid-Mon Valley." I'm cutting and pasting her actual comment ~Ron (Sutherland '56). Bonny's statement: One more thing... there is a picture on the website that is called Redds Beach Beauties... The correct date is 1950s... On the site it is dated 1940s... That is me at the very top, the first one, so it had to be the 50's. Bonny Hi, Jeane... I was looking through the Photo Gallery on the website and noticed the picture titled Redd's Beach Beauties. I question if that is Redd's Beach. I believe it is Crystal Beach on the road between Belle Vernon and Fayette City. Notice the coal miner's homes in the background. This appears to be the village of Naomi and the hill is much too steep for the one across from Redd's. There were never homes of that type near Redd's and the high dive tower at Redd's in the 50's was a wooden structure, not tubular steel. I took swimming lessons from Wilma (Wimpy) Fletcher and she had me go off the high dive many times. So, I am familiar with the dive in the 50's. The beauties are perfect. Just a nit... Take care...
